Orthodontic Treatment Options
Personalized Orthodontics in Fort Walton Beach
The right treatment starts with understanding your smile.
At Bayer & Curtis Orthodontics, Dr. Leigh Curtis will take a close look at your smile and talk through your options before recommending what makes the most sense for you.
From braces and clear aligners to early treatment and more complex orthodontic care, every plan is personalized with one goal in mind: creating a beautiful, healthy smile built to last.
Braces
Braces are a trusted, effective way to correct everything from simple alignment concerns to more complex bite problems.
We offer both traditional metal braces and discreet clear braces, with treatment carefully planned around your individual smile.
Ready to get started? In many cases, we can place your braces during your first visit with same-day braces.
Clear Aligners
Looking for a more discreet way to straighten your smile? We offer Invisalign® and Angel Aligner™ treatment for kids, teens, and adults.
Clear aligners are custom-designed to gradually move your teeth while fitting comfortably into everyday life. Because they’re removable, you can continue eating your favorite foods and easily brush and floss throughout treatment.
During your consultation, Dr. Curtis will help you decide whether clear aligners are the right choice for your smile and lifestyle.
Early Orthodontic Treatment
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an initial orthodontic evaluation by age 7. That doesn’t mean your child will need braces right away.
Instead, Dr. Curtis will monitor your child’s growth, identify any developing concerns, and determine the right timing for treatment if it’s needed.
Many of our younger patients simply visit us every six months for observation until the time is right. We believe in honest guidance, not rushing children into treatment they don’t need.
Orthodontics for Teens
The teen years are a great time to create a smile they’ll feel confident sharing.
Whether your teen chooses braces, Invisalign®, or Angel Aligner™, we’ll personalize treatment around their smile, lifestyle, and goals.
And with convenient virtual visits available, we can help busy teens stay on track even when school, sports, travel, or college takes them away from Fort Walton Beach.
Orthodontics for Adults
There’s no age limit on feeling great about your smile.
Whether your teeth have shifted over time, you’ve always wanted to straighten your smile, or you need treatment for a more complex bite concern, we’ll help you understand your options without pressure.
Choose from modern treatment options including Invisalign®, Angel Aligner™, clear braces, and metal braces, all personalized to your smile and goals.
Dentofacial Orthopedics
Orthodontics can guide more than the position of the teeth. During childhood and adolescence, treatment can also influence how the jaws and facial structures develop.
Dentofacial orthopedics uses carefully timed treatment and specialized appliances to help guide growth, improve bite relationships, and create the space needed for healthy alignment.
When early intervention is appropriate, we’ll explain why and help you understand how treatment can support your child’s developing smile.
Surgical Orthodontics
Some bite and jaw concerns can’t be fully corrected with braces or clear aligners alone.
For patients who may benefit from corrective jaw surgery, Dr. Curtis carefully coordinates orthodontic treatment with your oral surgeon to help ensure each stage of care works toward the same goal.
From preparing your smile before surgery to refining your bite afterward, we’ll guide you through the orthodontic side of the process and stay closely involved throughout your care.
Airway Orthodontics
We look beyond straight teeth to understand how your smile, jaws, and facial structures are developing together.
As part of a comprehensive orthodontic evaluation, Dr. Curtis considers jaw development, bite function, facial balance, growth patterns, and airway-related concerns when planning treatment.
Frequently Asked Questions About Orthodontic Treatment
What are the benefits of orthodontic treatment?
Orthodontic treatment can do more than straighten your teeth.
Proper alignment can make teeth easier to brush and floss, improve how your bite functions, and help create a smile you feel more confident sharing.
Depending on your needs, orthodontic treatment can address concerns such as crowding, spacing, overbites, underbites, crossbites, and other alignment or jaw-related issues.
What orthodontic treatment options are available for adults?
Adults have more orthodontic options than ever.
At Bayer & Curtis Orthodontics, we offer Invisalign®, Angel Aligner™, clear braces, and traditional metal braces for adults.
We’ll evaluate your smile, listen to what matters most to you, and recommend an option that makes sense for your goals and orthodontic needs.
Can orthodontic treatment improve my oral health?
Yes. Properly aligned teeth are often easier to brush and floss effectively, which can make maintaining good oral health easier over time.
Orthodontic treatment can also improve the way your teeth and jaws fit together and help distribute biting forces more evenly.
Should I choose braces or clear aligners?
Both can be excellent options. The better choice depends on your orthodontic needs, lifestyle, and personal preferences.
Braces can treat a wide range of orthodontic concerns, while clear aligners provide a discreet, removable alternative that works well for many kids, teens, and adults.
During your complimentary consultation, Dr. Curtis will evaluate your smile, explain your options, and help you decide which treatment makes the most sense for you.
Can I start orthodontic treatment at my first visit?
In many cases, yes.
If you’re ready to move forward and braces are right for your smile, we may be able to place them during your consultation with same-day braces.
If you’re choosing Invisalign® or Angel Aligner™, we can often take your digital smile scans during the same visit so your custom aligners can begin the production process.
When should my child first see an orthodontist?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an orthodontic evaluation by age 7.
At this age, we’re looking at how the teeth, jaws, and bite are developing. Many children won’t need treatment yet and can simply return for periodic growth checks.
If early treatment would be beneficial, we’ll explain what we’re seeing, why treatment may help, and the appropriate time to begin.
Do you offer virtual orthodontic visits?
Yes. Virtual visits can make it easier to stay connected with our team when you can’t make it into the office.
They’re especially convenient for college students and military families navigating TDY/TAD, allowing us to check progress and address certain concerns remotely when appropriate.
