What Does Invisalign® Offer You That Braces Don’t?
When it comes to straightening your teeth, there are a plethora of options available on the market. Our practice is pleased to offer Invisalign® orthodontic treatment as an alignment method for our patients. Both braces and Invisalign have their benefits.
Braces are comprised of metal brackets or other material which are glued onto your pearly whites and connected by wires and small rubber bands. Invisalign uses BPA-free clear plastic material custom crafted into aligner trays that are worn over your teeth. Both methods work to gradually shift your teeth into alignment while improving your smile’s appearance and promoting the proper function of your bite. The thing about braces is, once they are installed, you don’t have an option about shifting your teeth. With Invisalign, if you don’t wear them, they can’t fix your alignment issues.
If you are committed to the teeth straightening process, Invisalign can make your life offers some excellent benefits. First of all, if you are a teen, young adult, or adult who leans towards being self-conscious, Invisalign will be a huge relief. It does the work while remaining nearly invisible so you don’t have to worry about how you look when you smile.
Because the aligners are removable, you can eat and drink all of your favorite things without making adjustments to your diet as you might with braces. Because the aligners are removable you can clean your teeth and gums — brush and floss — as usual without working around wires and brackets that can trap food particles and plaque and tartar deposits. Not only are Invisalign aligners discreet so your social life remains unaffected, but your oral hygiene remains high because you can maintain your usual dental hygiene practice.
The length of time the teeth straightening process takes varies as well. With braces, you might have to wear them from 18 months to 3 years. With Invisalign, you will likely be wearing your aligners anywhere between 6 to 18 months, though that predisposes that you are wearing them the requisite 20-22 hours a day. If you are lax about wearing them consistently, your wear-time will be increased. It is worth doing, however, and you only need to come in the office to check your progress every 8-12 weeks, instead of the 4-6 weeks when wearing braces.
Wearing Invisalign aligners offers extra comfort for your oral tissues versus wearing braces. Your mouth gets a break because the soft tissues aren’t irritated as they might be with brackets and wires. Cleaning your aligners is also easy, you can either use an Invisalign Cleaning system or brush and rinse them in water every day, and you will switch to a fresh pair of aligners every two weeks.
